A Chinese Lily

The unusual shape of this flower, beautiful though it is, shows how even flowers respond to the ideals of those whom they grow to please. The very lines of this lily suggest dragons and those other weird shapes which are pleasing to the eye of the Oriental. This transformation in flowers was worked in the same way that the transformation of the pear, described here, was brought about.
