Mr. Burbank's gardens have always shown evidences of his mathematical precision. Nothing is ever planted or set out "hit or miss" in his garden. Anything that is worth doing at all is worth doing well, according to his practical philosophy. The picture gives a very useful hint as to the manipulation of a clothesline in marking out lines of any length.
