The Fruit of the Strawberry Tree
This fruit looks good enough to eat, but is not. It would seem, however, that the fruitmight be developed and have edible qualities. The strawberry tree is known to the botanist as Arbutus unedo. There are several allied featured of arbutus, and it is possible that, through hybridization, varieties may be produced that will have better fruiting properties. Doubtless a good many of our cultivated fruits were less promising in their original wild state than this fruit of the strawberry tree.
