Young "Royal" Cactus Plants
Royal is a word that has attractive meanings when applied to plants, whatever one may think of it nowadays in its application to the human being; and Mr. Burbank would not have given the name to this particular variety of spineless cactus had it not shown altogether exceptional qualities. To casual inspection the most striking thing about it is its propensity to strike out in directions, as if claiming all the land and air in the neighborhood as its birthright. Perhaps that accounts for the name.
